  Cabbages
& Kings is a newish children's bookshop at 36 Center in the main block
of Douglas. It specializes in extraordinary books -- from the older
classics such as A.A. Milne, Beatrix Potter and Rudyard Kipling to the
newer engineered pop-ups of Robert Sabuda, Matthew Rinehart and others.
We proudly emphasize books that are beautifully illustrated. Interspersed
are wonderful puppets, wooden building blocks, nubby bears and enameled
children's dishes. The ceiling is hung with the finest mobiles depicting
the solar system, biplanes, sailboats and globes. The walls feature
original artwork such as mirrors, chalkboards and light fixtures appropriate
for whimsical environments. Some of the furniture is hand-painted and
one of a kind ... creating a magical and happy atmosphere. This shop
is definitely unique and will provide a delightful experience for children
of all ages.
