From reggae to rock: Free
music in Saugatuck-Douglas

1 The “Sounds of Saugatuck” (SOS) features more than a dozen bars and restaurants offering a variety of music on Saturday afternoon /evening, April 26th, 2014. The event is organized to offer entertainment and showcase the very active off-season bar and restaurant scene here in the Saugatuck-Douglas area.

2 This seasonal event has become such a huge success, that it now has 14 establishments lined up with a variety of music talent. Music lovers can listen to Reggae at one spot to Jazz at another, by riding a free shuttle service. We have Cindy’s Moonlight Express as the official SOS shuttle. “We think it allows for greater flexibility during the event. Participants can travel FREE from one venue to another, plus it would allow the shuttle service to pickup and drop off at their residence for normal taxi rates. This takes the worry out about parking, transportation or weather. A kind of one stop shopping” said organizers.

3 For a full listing of bands and locales, visit: saugatuckvenetianfestival.org

Why you should attend “The idea is to bring people in for wide variety of music. Have them enjoy the quaint shops, take a stroll along the scenic harbor front, have them stay for dinner and spend the night at one of the area’s bed and breakfast,” Don Karaus, organizer.

New Release Wine & Food Pairings at Fenn Valley Winery

Event Dates: 04/26/2014 through 04/27/2014

April 19th-2oth and April 26th-27th, 2014

2014 reservations accepted online starting March 1st, 2014

Celebrate Michigan Wine Month, as well as the new release of several Fenn Valley wines. Be among the first to try wines to be released throughout 2014. Guests sample our latest work along with small food samples to highlight the culinary relationship.

During this event, we try to unravel some of the mysteries that seemingly surround a successful wine and food pairing, hopefully helping you understand why some wines pair better with certain foods than others. The winemaking staff is available to a rare, personalized Q&A session.

What to expect

This new event was an offshoot of the former Pre-Release event that has taken place every March since 1991.

Like Pre-Release, our winemaker will select six new, unreleased wines to feature at this event. However, instead of simply letting you taste the wines with the usual bread and cheese, we serve each wine with a food sample that pairs well with the wine. Participants will receive information that explains why the food was chosen as a good pairing match, and as you taste the food and sample the wine, you will begin to understand the basis for good pairings.

Once you are seated, you will be given the six wines, one at a time, along with a food selection that pairs with the wine being served. Our winemaking staff will roam about the floor to answer any questions you might have about the wines, the past vintage, or why the food pairing was chosen. The wines that you will be tasting are not yet available to the public and were either recently bottled or are tank & barrel samples.

As we have done in the past with Pre-Release, seating will be by reservation only. Make a reservation online.

Our seatings are 1.5 hour overlapping periods beginning at 12:00, 12:45, 1:30, 2:15, 3:00, and 3:45 on Saturdays, and at 12:30, 1:15, 2:00, and 2:45 on Sundays. Walk-ins will be accepted as room permits with reservations taking priority. The most desirable seating times go quickly, so make your reservation early online. Should you want to experience these six wines in their finest splendor, we invite you to join us for our Pre-Release Winemaker’s Dinner scheduled for April 5th.

Because the Wine & Food Pairing Weekends have become our most popular event, reservations are required. The atmosphere is very relaxed and you are invited to sit back and enjoy yourself during your hour and a half tasting experience. We try to make this event both fun and educational.

Reservations (required) at: 269.561.2396 or http://fennvalley.com.  Reservatoins accepted March 1.
